RESUMO

Background and Aim: Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli [EHEC] cause a wide spectrum of infections, such as diarrhea, hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic-uremic syndrome. Considering the risks associated with antibiotic therapy against EHEC infection, vaccines can be a promising method for prevention of infections. Recombinant chimeric proteins containing multiple immunogens could induce immunity against bacterial infections. The aim of this study was to evaluate immunogenecity of trivalent chimeric antigen EspA -Stx2b - Intimin against E.coli O157 H7 infection

Material and Methods: In this descriptive-laboratory study, recombinant chimeric protein was expressed in E.coli BL21 DE3 by use of IPTG. The protein expression was evaluated by SDS-PAGE and western blotting analysis. The recombinant protein was purified using Ni- NTA affinity chromatography. The immunization was conducted in mice with purified protein and antibody titers were determined by ELISA. Following immunization, mice were infected with E.coli O157:H7 and evaluated for bacterial shedding and mortality. Using SPSS software, statistical analysis was performed by Duncan's test and T-test

Results: The protein was expressed in E.coli BL21 [DE3] and SDS-PAGE analysis showed expression of recombinant protein with molecular weight of 63kD. Western blot analysis confirmed presence of chimeric protein. ELISA results showed that immunogenic properties of chimeric protein induced humoral response to EspA, intimin and Stx2b. Bacterial shedding in immunized mice decreased to 102 cfu/ml and mortality rate was reduced to 60%

Conclusion: The results showed that the chimeric protein induced humoral response and protected the mice against E.coli O157:H7

RESUMO

Timely diagnosis is an important factor in successful treatment of diseases. In this regard, non-invasive sampling methods such as salivary analysis may be of great help in assessment of diseases and treatment outcomes. Currently, introduction of new techniques for salivary analysis has increased its potential as a new diagnosing tool. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research [NIDCR] was the first to propose the role of saliva in diagnosis and assessment of diseases. Since then, several studies have been conducted in this respect. This review article aims to evaluate the results of these studies to provide a brief insight on the correlation of saliva with different oral and systemic diseases. Key words namely saliva, biomarkers, oral diseases and systemic diseases were searched in PubMed, Google Scholar, EBSCO, Scopus and Medline databases and articles relevant to the use of saliva for evaluation and detection of various diseases published during 1950-2011 were collected. Salivary analysis increases the collaboration between dentists and physicians and can be used for detection of some systemic conditions. This review study discusses the role of saliva in detection of different oral and systemic conditions and emphasizes its importance

RESUMO

Introduction: Communication and interaction has long-standing relationship with nursing and has accompanied and mixed with nursing care. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between cultural intelligence and social interaction of nurses in Mashhad

Materials and methods: This study was a descriptive-correlation study that 115 nurses who were working in hospital with at least 2 years' experience were entered to study. Cultural intelligence was measured with questionnaire designed by Van Dyne and Ang and social interaction was determined by Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior questionnaire [FIRO-B]. Validity of questionnaires was obtained by content validity and reliability of them was measured by alpha-Cronbach. Data was collected from nurses and analyzed by SPSS 11.5. For analytic of data, Pearson co relational test, chi-square, independent t-test, one way ANOVA and regression were used

Findings: Result showed that cultural intelligence of nursing is in medium level and social interaction is in low level. Also educational level, economic status and work experience had a significant correlation with social interaction. On the other hand, there were no significant correlation between cultural intelligence and social interaction, and their components

Conclusion: Due to the results of this study, it is necessary to implement programs to strengthen factors that affect social interaction in nurses

RESUMO

Some of the dental procedures can cause bleeding. Bleeding control can be affected in some patients due to systemic disease or chronic anticoagulant therapy, so they may be at increased risk for bleeding events or even death following invasive dental procedures. This study was designed to evaluate the knowledge of general dentists in Qazvin city regarding coagulation tests performed in bleeding disorders during 2010-2011. A questionnaire [including 23 questions] was designed with the aid of specialists in the field of oral medicine and hematology. This questionnaire was distributed among 124 general practitioners. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 15 and T-test, one-way ANOVA and Tukey. The mean score for dentists knowledge was 8.64 +/- 1.20. There was no significant difference in the mean knowledge scores among male and female dentists. Tukey test showed a significant difference in the mean knowledge level among 31 -40 year old and over forty year old dentists [p<0.04]. This study showed that knowledge of the dentists regarding bleeding disorders is not at desirable level which requires planning for continuing education courses

RESUMO

Background: the purpose of this research is to evaluate mental health of medical students to estimate prevalence pf psychiatric disorder [including: Somatic symptoms, anxiety-insomnia, social dysfunction and depression] in this population: Nonmilitary medical students at clinical training grade refered to army university of I.R.O.I for instruction in 2nd half year of 1383

Materials and Methods: in this research 205 students [60% female,40% male] were evaluated by GHQ-28 instrument and also an enclosure containing demographic data

Results: the results of this research demonstrated that 47/8% of individuals were suspicious to mental disorder in which more frequencies were among women, interns, single marital status and those who had positive history of mental disease in their families

Conclusions: there was statistically significant relation between 1-Mental disorder and single marital status and also positive family history 2-Somatic symptoms [38.5%] and gender [female] 3-Anxiety-insomnia [47.8%] and gender [female] and also FH[+] 4-Social dysfunction [69%] and training grade [interns] 5-Depression [25.4%] and single marital status and also FH[+] There was no significant relation between two groups of age [>25 Years] and non of considered disorders
